Shotblasting the fast and effective way to clean and prepare surfaces

Shotblasting (also known as abrasive blasting or abrasive blasting) is one of our key surface preparation methods. We have extensive manual and automatic installations for this process.

Shot blasting is a surface preparation technique that involves quickly impacting the surface of an object. This is achieved by a controlled flow of abrasive material at high speed. Our blast service can be used to remove scale or rust, providing a clean surface ideal for paint or powder adhesion. The abrasive material we use can also remove any paint or dust pre-coating from any item.

Applications of shot blasting

Below are some of the applications of shot blasting:

  • Effective Removal of Contaminants: Shot blasting is highly effective at removing a wide range of contaminants, including rust, paint, flakes, and dirt. This leaves the surface completely clean and free of impurities.

  • Improved Adhesion: By removing layers of rust and old paint, shot blasting improves the adhesion of new coating layers, such as paint or anti-corrosion coating. This prolongs the service life of the treated surface.

  • Surface Preparation: Shot blasting creates a uniform and rough surface texture, ideal for coating adhesion. This is especially important in industrial applications, such as painting steel structures, where good adhesion is essential for corrosion protection.

At Batiz Control Inc in Saltillo, Coahuila, we are proud to offer a high-quality shot blasting and shot blasting service that transforms common surfaces into exceptional surfaces. Our cutting-edge technology and field expertise allow us to effectively remove contaminants, rust, and old paint, preparing surfaces for durable and safe coatings.

Improved surface quality
Shot blasting produces a high-quality surface finish free of rust, scale, and other surface imperfections.
Increased durability
Shot blasting removes any surface contaminants that could cause corrosion or other types of degradation, improving the overall durability of the metal part or component.
Improved Grip
Shot blasting creates a rough surface that favors the adhesion of paints, coatings or other finishes, which translates into a more durable and resistant finish.
Efficiency
Blast blasting is a highly efficient process that can clean and prepare metal surfaces quickly and effectively, reducing the amount of time and labor required for surface preparation.

Processes in which the shot blasting technique is used

At BCI, we carry out this process on all the parts that our customers request from us and there are many processes for which this technique can be used:

  • Rust removal, in rusty parts
  • Removal of paint residues and preparation of the surface for new layers, making it adhere better.
  • Deburring in castings or injection moulding parts
  • Cleaning and removal of salts from previously applied heat treatments and discoloration
  • Surface preparation for specific treatments
  • Microscopic grains to retain lubricants or release agents
  • Application to obtain specific roughness that allows different areas of sliding or retention
  • Shot peening treatment to increase fatigue resistance in certain critical parts of turbine components, motors, springs, gears that require high resistance.
  • Modeling of thin aluminum parts for the aeronaval industry.
  • Application as an anti-corrosion treatment of parts

Frequently asked questions

The process of shot blasting, also known as shot blasting, involves the use of abrasive projectiles, called shot guns, which are launched at high velocity on a surface. These projectiles impact and remove contaminants, rust, old paint and other impurities from the surface, leaving it clean and prepared for coatings or to improve its texture.
Shot is an abrasive material widely used in various applications, including the shot peening process, as well as in granite block cutting operations in sawmills.

This abrasive is produced in a variety of particle sizes, hardness levels, and materials, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, plastic, aluminum, glass, copper, among others. This diversity of options enables exceptional results in a wide range of blasting applications, such as casting residue removal, forging pickling, flat and round laminate treatment, metal structure preparation, shot peening, paint surface preparation, metallization processes, and more.
It is critical to highlight that during the process of preparing surfaces for paint application, it is crucial to remove fine contaminants, such as dust or foils, effectively. These contaminants can become trapped in the small gaps and ridges that form on the surface of the part after it is blasted. When paint is applied, these contaminants are trapped between the paint and the steel, reducing the ability to bond between the two surfaces.
The use of steel shot, in closed spaces, is extremely advantageous compared to sand, highlighting the following points:

-Greater productivity-Lower
cost of abrasive per m2 cleaned
Reduction in maintenance
costs-Better quality in terms of the work carried out (homogeneity, roughness, cleanliness)
-Less environmental
pollution-Less generation of waste and dust
-Better visibility of
operators-Less risk to the health of
operators-Less investment in dust collector systems
It is ideal for treating materials like metals (steel, iron, aluminum, copper), removing rust, corrosion, and paint, or preparing surfaces for coatings. It is also used on plastics and polymers to improve coating adhesion and texture surfaces.
